Colombia

The Colombia Life Center safe house (CLC) provides trauma counseling, housing, food, life skills training, and health care free of charge to the families of pastors who died for leading others to Christ and for working to free rural communities long oppressed by rebels. The CLC is a transition house that helps these families torn apart by tremendous loss to pull together, acquire other means of income, and work through the trauma of witnessing extreme violence against a family member. It provides protection for the family, which remains under serious threat from rebels, and supports them until they are able to reestablish their lives and their homes in safety and independence.

Who does it benefit? Who is eligible?

Despite tremendous gains in security in Colombia over the years, armed conflict continues to claim the lives of Christians in rural areas known as the Red Zones. Pastors are targeted for their message of freedom and peace, and for their work to prevent local youth from becoming involved in the conflict. The CLC partners with local churches to contact and locate these families who have lost their provider and leader.

What can you expect as a short-term missionary?

Over the years, CIN has created a strong relationship with our partner church in Colombia and teams will feel this upon arriving to the mission house where they will be staying! Teams have the unique opportunity to directly minister and encourage the different families living at the CLC.  Not only do the team’s visits to the CLC impact the widow and children’s lives, but also the team’s work projects that better their home.  Teams will also have the opportunity to make an impact in many children’s lives by participating in Sidewalk Sunday School outreach in surrounding communities and schools.
